Tigers DH Martinez sidelined by knee

CHICAGO — Detroit Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez is out of the starting lineup because of irritation in his right knee.

Martinez had an MRI Monday, and manager Brad Ausmus said it showed no major structural issues. Martinez, 37, said he isn’t concerned and joked he is “getting old.”

Martinez is hitting .333 with nine home runs and 35 RBIs in 60 games.

Outfielder J.D. Martinez replaced him at DH against the White Sox Monday.

Ausmus said Victor Martinez is available to hit and will be evaluated daily.

Collins out of hospital: After spending Sunday night in a Milwaukee hospital, Mets manager Terry Collins was released Monday. He’s expected to be in uniform for today’s series opener against the Pirates.

Collins, 67, had complained of feeling ill, though his symptoms were undisclose­d. According to the Mets, Dr. Brian-Fred Fitzsimmon­s cleared Collins to return after all tests came back negative.

Yankees sign first baseman: Ike Davis and the New York Yankees finalized a one-year contract, giving the team more options after putting four first basemen on the disabled list. Davis hit .268 with four homers and 25 RBIs for Triple-A Round Rock, then was released Sunday. The 29-year-old played for Oakland last season, hitting .229 with three homers and 20 RBIs.

Briefly: Yu Darvish went on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder discomfort after only three starts for the Texas Rangers in his return from elbow surgery. An MRI Monday showed no structural issues. Darvish last pitched Wednesday, when he went five innings against Houston. He said after the early exit that tightness in his neck caused tightness in his shoulder . ... Atlanta placed left-hander Eric O’Flaherty on the 15-day disabled list because of a right knee strain. The Braves also recalled righthande­r Ryan Weber from Triple-A Gwinnett.
