Asian-inspired pork burgers topped with sriracha slaw light a fire to routine

Shake up your summer grilling routine — try Asian-style pork burgers (or ground turkey or beef burgers) topped with hoisin ketchup and sriracha slaw.

There are few things in life like a good, juicy grilled burger in the summertime. I’m crazy about a classic beef burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup and mustard. However, we’re blessed with a long grilling season here, so we like to change things up every once in a while.

Once you try these Asian-inspired pork burgers with hoisin ketchup and spicy sriracha slaw, this may become your go-to alternative to the classic American burger.

Sriracha hot sauce (also known as rooster sauce because of the iconic rooster on the label) seems to be just as popular as Tabasco sauce these days. I like the fact that sriracha has a rich texture and is not as vinegary, so it works well added to things like slaw.

Another ingredient that gives these burgers an Asian twist is hoisin sauce, or Chinese barbecue sauce. Hoisin sauce can be a little strong and may vary by brand. Start with one tablespoon (which is specified in the recipe), but adjust upward if you like a heartier, deeper barbecue taste.

Whenever you’re working with ground meat and adding additional ingredients, do so carefully as you don’t want to overwork the meat.

It’s already ground, so overworking the meat can result in a tough, dry burger.

If you don’t eat pork, these burgers are just as delicious made with beef, chicken or turkey.
