Reject this new ‘norm’

- Nabil A. Bayakly,

Sunday morning 49 people were mercilessly killed and 53 were injured in a cowardly attack at an LGBTQ nightclub in Orlando, Florida. It is the deadliest shooting attack in U.S. history, and these horrifying attacks are happening far too often.

We send our prayers for those who died, and we ask Allah to give patience and forbearance for their loved ones and speedy and complete recovery for those who were injured. This terrorist attack is another proof that gun violence doesn’t discriminate, be it students, audience at the movies, African-Americans in Bible class, women at Planned Parenthood and now in a nightclub. Our response is always the same for the loss of precious lives. We mourn and send our prayers to the victims and stand with their loved ones.

We must fight for common-sense measures that will prevent more tragedies like this one. Let us all speak in one voice this coming November and reject this new “norm.”
