Two manufacturing projects in Collierville received formal approval Monday evening from the town’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen. Combined, the projects are expected to bring several dozen new jobs to the suburb east of Memphis.

The board unanimously approved a conditional use permit to the company ChemStation to manufacture soaps and detergents in Collierville.

The company plans to shift operations from a site near Elvis Presley Boulevard in Memphis and toward a new Collierville building to be constructed on Progress Road between Tenn. 385 and East Shelby Drive, said local company executive Roy Brown.

“I’m a Collierville resident,” Brown said. “I’m bringing my business to where I live.”

The company employs about 15 people in Memphis and will employ about the same number in Collierville, said Brown, vice president of Mid-South Chemical Specialties, a franchise of Ohio-based ChemStation. He said the company plans to start construction on the new Collierville building within 90 days.

Also Monday, the board gave approval to a development agreement and final site plan by CCL Label, which plans to expand its existing facility, also on Progress Road.

CCL Label makes product labels for items such as Roundup herbicide. It’s expanding into a new product line: in-mold labeling, in which the label becomes an integral part of a plastic container.

In March, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen had voted 4-2 to approve a tax break plan for the expansion, which CCL Label is doing in conjunction with a Turkish company, Korsini-SAF. Supporters of the project have said the expansion should create 130 new jobs by 2022.

A third business project got a boost Monday evening when the board voted to spend $89,000 for a sewer line expansion that will serve the new headquarters of hardware wholesaler Orgill Inc.

Orgill is moving from a site in Germantown and building its new headquarters on Houston Levee south of Winchester in Collierville.
