Nice to see The Commercial Appeal place canonization of St. Mother Teresa on the front page (“St. Teresa once walked among us,” Sept. 4 article).
However, the writer never mentioned her staunch pro-life stand and her many commentaries about why she believed the taking the life of an innocent unborn is the greatest poverty.
But then again this newspaper consistently endorses pro abortion politicians.
I was so happy to read the articles about the canonization of Mother Teresa as well as the David Waters article about the order Mother Teresa established in Memphis (“St. Teresa once walked among us,” Sept. 4 article).
Earlier in the week, I read a memorial article about Princess Diana, and there was the customary endof-August flurry about her untimely and sad death.
I remember thinking in 1997 about how the death of Princess Di was so prominent that the death of Mother Teresa, eight days later, went practically unnoticed.
The media will have an opportunity in late summer 2017 (20-year memorial time) to reflect what the values of our country truly are. I hope there might be equal footing for two great women. Can humility, service and even sainthood hold up against royalty and glamour?
The Tennessee Valley Authority needs to keep its greedy, toxic mitts off the aquifer (“TVA, MLGW dispute tapping aquifer,” Sept 4).
Why would any sane human waste millions of gallons of pure water to cool a power plant? Pump some water from the Mississippi. We haven’t been able to drink that stuff for ages.
Stop polluting earth, water and air in pursuit of profit.
I frequently bike our greenlines and greenways and often connect through Shelby Farms. Recently, after observing the construction work from afar for the past couple of years, I had the opportunity to enjoy firsthand the incredible “Heart of the Park” improvements. Wow!
The new visitor center, eating facilities, expanded lake and biking/walking access, landscape improvements, event stage/meeting facilities, expanded parking, etc., have created a truly world-class recreational center, adjoining an already outstanding and unique 4,500 acre park.
Special thanks to those individuals, foundations, companies, construction vendors and governmental agencies that funded and supported this new and outstanding addition to our community.
