Body cameras to be in place by Nov. 15

-

The deployment of body-worn cameras for Memphis police officers is expected to be completed by mid-November.

Body cameras are already in use at the Crump, Airways and Raines police stations.

The date for full deployment of the cameras is projected to be Nov. 15, police officials said Tuesday.

“The DA gave us the green light and I am so happy that we are rolling them out,” said Memphis Police Director Michael Rallings. “Like I told you, the day that I can come forward and tell you that we’ve rolled out all of uniform patrol and the majority of our other units then I’ll be very happy and we will celebrate that day.”

Rallings said the current body cameras also will be upgraded to a “sturdier” camera.

Here are the deployment dates for body cameras by precinct: Mt. Moriah: Sept. 5-10 Ridgeway: Sept. 12-17 North Main: Sept. 19-24 Old Allen: Sept. 26-Oct. 1 Tillman: Oct. 3-8 Appling Farms: Oct. 10-15 Traffic: Oct. 17-22 Special Ops/OCU: Oct. 24-Nov. 15
