New lawsuit targets medical pot effort

-

A coalition of groups already trying to block a medical marijuana measure from the Arkansas ballot has asked the state’s highest court to also disqualify a competing legalization proposal.

Arkansans Against Legalized Marijuana on Tuesday asked the state Supreme Court to prevent election officials from counting any votes for the proposal to allow patients with certain medical conditions to buy the drug. The coalition includes the state Chamber of Commerce, the Arkansas Farm Bureau and the Family Council Action Committee.

The group has filed a similar petition against a competing medical marijuana proposal. That measure also is being challenged in a separate lawsuit by a Little Rock attorney.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday says the proposal includes misleading statements and leaves out material information for voters.
