R.S. Lewis Funeral home deserves much appreciation for providing funeral services for victims of the Severson Street fire (“‘We’ve never had something like this,’” Sept. 21 article).

This funeral home has a long and distinguished history of service to our community. I have personal knowledge of their works of mercy.

Please say thanks to them, a good and compassionate neighbor.

I just read that R.S. Lewis is holding funerals for the 10 people killed in the Severson Street fire free of charge. R.S. Lewis, you are a class act.

I salute the altruistic generosity of the Jett family for allowing their son’s organs to be donated (“10-year-old boy injured in Severson Avenue fire dies,” Sept. 17 article). Their compassion is helping so many to live better lives. In their grief, they are heroes.

I received a heart from a generous family. I think of and thank them every day for giving me the gift of life.

In a Sept. 18 letter “Theological differences,” the writer stated: “Any simple study of Islam will reveal that Allah is described very differently from God of the Bible. For example, God is Triune, and Allah is only one.”

Of course, Jews also believe that God is “only one.” And they can quote the Bible to prove it: “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD” (Deut. 6:4, KJV). Jesus himself quoted this verse approvingly in Mk. 12:29, when asked what was the most important commandment. Yet by the writer’s logic, Jews do not believe in the God of the Bible because they do not believe God is triune.

Truth is, while the New Testament provides the basis for belief in a triune God, the doctrine of the Trinity was elaborated later, notably in the 4th century, resulting in the creeds adopted by the councils of Nicaea (325) and Constantinople (381).

Truth is also that Jews, Christians and Muslims all believe in the same God, though their understanding of this God is different. This is why the Quran recognizes both Abraham and Jesus as prophets of Allah (which, by the way, simply means “God”).

With recent attacks again perpetrated by Muslims, one must ask; Which candidate for president will be a stronger partner for Israel?

The current administration and all her mouthpieces call the efforts of creating a new caliphate boundaries ISIL, not ISIS. ISIL refers to Islamic State and Islamic Levant. The Levant region under Islam is the coastal region in the Mediterranean on the North from Turkey, to the South in Egypt, and at the heart is Israel.

The candidate from the left is continuing present policy, and that puts the partnership with Israel in doubt. Do you now know whom to vote for?
