E. Pkwy. site next for City Markets

The owners of the City Markets in Midtown and Downtown are planning a new business at East Parkway and Central Avenue.

Hamida and Sunny Mandani will open 901 Grille and Market at 711 East Parkway, where Kwik Shop Grill did business for years before closing, the landlord, Loeb Properties, announced.

“We would see a lot of cars parked there,’’ Hamida said of the center across from Christian Brothers University and near the Kroc Center. “It was always a busy intersection and busy strip mall there... One day we were driving from out east to go to our Cooper location and saw a sign saying it was up for lease.’’

Loeb Properties announced it has begun renovating the 2,400 square feet for a new tenant. The Subway sandwich shop next door in the same center will continue operating there.

The Mandanis opened City Market Downtown at 66 S. Main six years ago and City Market Midtown at 836 Cooper St. last year. They also opened Quench, a wine shop at 99 S. Second St. in July.

Loeb described 901 Grille and Market as a “local stop for fast and casual meals featuring local and farm fresh ingredients’’ for regional and international flavors.

In addition to dining, 901 Grille and Market will offer snacks, local beers and dry goods. It should open by mid-November.
