Wolves shake off slow start to top Red Devils

(2) CORDOVA 33, GERMANTOWN 19

first-half rushing touchdowns of 20 and 30 yards.

The offense, also in the top five in the city at 377.6 yards per game, found a rhythm despite missing leading rusher Jeremy Banks. Lacy, a three-year starter, shouldered the load with a career-high 159 yards and three touchdowns.

Cordova racked up 408 yards of total offense, largely thanks to its aggressive approach. That aggressiveness sealed the game as senior quarterback Devin Coleman threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Jacolby Hewitt with two minutes remaining to make it a twopossession game.

“I think our guys did a great job and our coaches did a great job of sticking to it through some adversity,” Jones said.

Adversity came in the form of multiple fumbled snaps during a sloppy third quarter.

“I don’t know what was going on,” Jones said. “We have to do a better job of protecting the ball.”

Lacy provided the steady hand for the offense when it was needed most. His third touchdown of the game came from 16 yards after the offense had lost yards on consecutive plays.

While the Cordova defense forced three turnovers and had five sacks, the Germantown offense was able to make some plays. Quarterback Miles Guyton threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jaylin Williams in the first quarter.

Guyton and Williams also connected for 36 yards on a crucial thirdand-24 that led to Cameron Tewari’s 2-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Quinton Jamison also scored on a 2-yard run that was set up by a fake punt.

Cordova now faces the toughest part of its schedule, capped by a battle against No. 1 Whitehaven.

“We’ve got the toughest back-end schedule, I think, in the state of Tennessee,” Jones said. “Every win in this league is well worth it.”
