Arlington teen injured in crash

A 16-year-old was in critical condition Sunday after crashing a vehicle into a tree.

The one-car wreck occurred around 9:05 a.m. at Chester and Larry Anderson in Arlington, said Shelby County Sheriff's spokesman Earle Farrell.

Farrell said the boy was transporte­d to Regional Medical Center.

It appeared that the boy, a new driver, had been traveling over the 35-mph speed limit on damp pavement, Farrell said.

"Everybody needs to slow down," Farrell said. "When I was leaving that scene there was a car coming toward me that was going at least 60."

The boy was wearing a seat belt.

Memphis police: Man shot after argument over money

A 26-year-old man told police he was shot Sunday morning in the front yard of a residence after an argument with an acquaintan­ce over money.

Police responded at about 10:50 a.m. Sunday to the 3100 block of Mountain Terrace in Frayser and found the victim in the kitchen of a rooming house suffering from gunshot wounds, Memphis police Lt. Karen Rudolph said in an e-mail.

The victim was transporte­d to Regional Medical Center in critical condition. The victim said the suspect pulled out a gun and shot him, before the suspect fled south on Mountain Terrace. The victim's condition improved to non-critical, and no arrest had been made yet, Rudolph said.

Man killed in 3200 block of Edgeware

Memphis police were investigat­ing a homicide Sunday night in the 3200 block of Edgeware in the area of Winchester and Old Tchulahoma.

Memphis police Lt. Karen Rudolph said officers located one man inside a vehicle who had been shot to death.

Sibyl Dansberry, 62, was in her kitchen cooking when she heard three or four gunshots that were "very loud."

"Like they were almost at my door," she said.

Ronessia Banks, 39, who lives nearby with her three daughters and granddaugh­ter, also said she heard four or five gunshots. "We hit the floor," she said. She looked outside and saw that a red Cadillac had hit a mailbox and crashed into a yard down the street. She went to the scene and saw the victim and "a lot of blood."

"I've never experience­d anything like this," she said. "It's so unreal."

No suspect informatio­n was available and the investigat­ion was ongoing.

Police: 72-year-old man killed in car crash

A 72-year-old man was killed in a crash Saturday at Hollywood and Sanders.

Memphis police Lt. Karen Rudolph said investigat­ors determined that the man was stopped along the curb of southbound Hollywood in a silver 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix and tried to make a U-turn to go northbound. He was struck in the driver's side by a green 2000 Toyota Corolla traveling southbound.

The investigat­ion was ongoing.
