Both upgraded to questionable

SAN ANTONIO - Grizzlies center Marc Gasol and forward JaMychal Green have been upgraded to questionable for their game Tuesday night against the San Antonio Spurs.

Grizzlies coach David Fizdale held an optional practice Monday, one day after saying that he’ll look to get his key players rest and recuperation due to nagging injuries. But that doesn’t apply to Gasol (left foot strain) and Green (left shoulder soreness) who likely will look to return as soon as Tuesday night against the San Antonio Spurs in the AT&T Center.

Gasol missed the past five games and Green sat out three. Memphis, losers in five of its last seven outings, is still trying to find a rhythm on both ends of the court before a seventh straight playoff appearance.

The Grizzlies sit seventh in the Western Conference with five regularseason games remaining.

Gasol has steadily progressed in recent days. The 7-footer experienced his worst month of the season in March. Gasol averaged 15.7 points on 41.5 percent shooting in 36 minutes per game.

Green, who will become a restricted free agent this summer, averaged 10.4 and 6.1 rebounds in his last seven appearances. The Grizzlies also announced that veteran swingman Tony Allen is questionable against the Spurs with a left eye injury. Rookie guard Andrew Harrison likely will return after nursing a right ankle sprain.

Clutch Conley

Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley is the only NBA player this season to record multiple games with 20-plus points, 10-plus assists and zero turnovers.

Conley finished with 20 points and 12 assists without a turnover Sunday in the Grizzlies’ loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

“Mike has been doing that all year. What he’s trying to do is to will us? No. We expect him to be great,” Griz veteran Tony Allen said. “He’s been doing a great job of that. He’s going to have to continue to do a great job of scoring and getting others involved.”

Since the All-Star break, the Grizzlies have a -12.4 net rating (points per 100 possessions) when Conley is on the bench.
