Man sentenced to 26 years for shooting FedEx driver with AK-47

A 47-year-old man was sentenced Wednesday in Shelby County Criminal Court to 26 years in prison in the shooting of a FedEx driver.

Keith Austin was identified as the person responsibl­e for wounding driver Edwin Ray with an AK-47 in the area of Capleville.

At 4:41 p.m. Dec. 18, 2014, officers responded to East Holmes and Malone Road. Ray said he was traveling east on Holmes in his FedEx truck when he saw an unknown van driver acting aggressive­ly and pointing at him. Ray said that as he pulled from a stop sign he heard a loud bang and was shot. The other vehicle turned off quickly.

Ray was transporte­d to Regional Medical Center in critical condition with gunshot wounds to his legs. His condition improved and he identified Austin in a photo lineup.

According to an affidavit, a witness saw a man shoot into the driver’s side door of the FedEx truck with a rifle. She was able to get a license plate number.

Austin was initially charged with attempted first-degree murder, but the jurors convicted him of the lesser charge of attempted second-degree murder.

Shelby County Criminal Court Judge Chris Craft sentenced Austin to 16 years on the attempted murder charge consecutiv­e to 10 years for employing a firearm in a dangerous felony.

Memphis Police ID man killed at Whitehaven apartment

Memphis police said Fadel Alammari had just arrived at his Whitehaven apartment when he was killed last Saturday.

Alammari, 42, was identified by police Wednesday as the man fatally shot April 8 outside the Hunter Oaks apartments in the 3700 block of Graves Road.

Investigat­ors said Alammari arrived home and parked his vehicle when he was approached and he and the gunmen struggled. Alammari was shot and died on the scene.

Police ID woman found dead in vehicle trunk

The woman found dead in the trunk of a repossesse­d vehicle Monday has been identified as Anitra Summervill­e, age 42 , police spokeswoma­n Lt. Karen Rudolph wrote in an email.

The body was found at All-Star Recovery at 6667 Pasadena Road in Horn Lake after the car was towed from a home in the 3500 block of Crow Road near Highland.

A records search showed Summervill­e's most recent address was in an apartment complex off Winchester Road in Hickory Hill. No one answered the door on Wednesday evening, and a Comcast cutoff notice hung on the door.
