Mike Huckabee defends daughter again

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is once again coming to the defense of his daughter, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, over a controversial painting by comedian Jim Carrey.

Carrey, an actor and comedian turned painter recently, released some of his latest artwork on Twitter over the weekend, taking aim at the Trump White House. One portrait appears to be a less-than-flattering image of Sanders, though she isn’t named.

“This is the portrait of a so-called Christian whose only purpose in life is to lie for the wicked. Monstrous!” reads the tweet.

Trump and Sanders supporters took to social media to criticize Carrey in similar fashion, among them Sanders’ father.

“Pathetic BULLY, sexist, hater, bigot & ‘Christaphobe’ @jimcarrey attacks @PressSec for her faith,” Huckabee tweeted. “... what would be hypocritical Hollywood reaction if he called someone a ‘so-called Muslim’ or ‘so-called Jew’?”

Huckabee’s defense of his daughter was reminiscent of when he took to Twitter to defend her last November after a University of Memphis professor posted an uncomplimentary comment about Sanders.

Judy Cole, a clinical assistant professor in the Loewenberg College of Nursing, took heat online after commenting on a tweet showing Sanders wearing a camouflage jacket given to her by an Army officer during a Trump visit to South Korea.

“If she froze to death, she wouldn’t be missed,” Cole replied in a tweet.

Twitter blew up with comments defending Sanders, including one from Huckabee saying Cole made Nurse Ratched, from the movie “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” look like Mother Teresa.

Students quickly came to Cole’s defense, calling her a great teacher. The university issued a statement saying it investigated but the comments were personal and did not reflect the university’s views.
