Events featuring Dr. Bernice King, daughter of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., have been added to the lineup of activities next month commemorating the 50th anniversary of the King assassination.

Bernice King and a group of ministers and special guests are scheduled to travel from Atlanta to Memphis on a specially chartered Delta flight on April 2, according to the Atlanta-based Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change.

They’ll take a guided tour of the National Civil Rights Museum, which is built around the old Lorraine Motel, where King was fatally shot on April 4, 1968.

At 6 p.m. on April 2, Bernice King and guests will dine at Clayborn Temple, with a program to follow, the King Center said in a news release.

The King Center also announced several commemorative events in Atlanta.

The April 2 events in Memphis are in addition to a previously announced April 3 commemoration of King’s “Mountaintop” speech, delivered at Clayborn Temple the evening before he was killed.

It was previously announced that Dr. Bernice King as well as her brother Martin Luther King III would take part in that April 3 event.

Several commemorative events take place on April 4. The commemorations are expected to draw a wide range of civil rights figures and celebrities, including Jesse Jackson, Danny Glover and entertainer Common.
