Defining true motives for amnesty

It is obvious to all that Democrats want amnesty for illegal immigrants in order to get their votes. They won’t say it, but we all know that it’s true. Why not expose their hypocrisy by offering limited amnesty for all 16 million illegal immigrants with the caveat that they do not get voting rights or qualify for any welfare programs for 20 years? In exchange we would build the wall and strengthen the border and toughen laws on future attempts to invade our country. They, of course, would reject the offer because they don’t really care about the people, just their votes. This would reveal their true motives to most thinking people.

Editorials were appropriate and objective

The June 7 CA editorials were appropriate Email letters to letters@commercial appeal.com; mail Letters to the Editor, The Commercial Appeal, 495 Union, Memphis, TN 38103; or click on the “Submit Letter” link on the Opinion page atcommercialappeal.com. and objective, both the “Let them (gay couples) eat cake” and Your Turn Viewpoint by Jack Phillips, Colorado cake shop operator, who refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple.

The USA TODAY editorial gave relatively objective facts of the U.S. Supreme Court case, just decided in favor of Phillips after six years.

Even though one might disagree with all the religious and social implications of Phillips’ refusal to “serve,” so to speak, he is to be admired for persisting in his beliefs while risking financial loss, a character trait that most of us have lost in recent years.
