100-mile car chase ends in arrest for carjacking suspects

Four men sit in the Shelby County jail, all charged with carjacking after leading law enforcemen­t on a chase that ended in Hazen, Arkansas, about 107 miles away.

According to the affidavit of complaint, Memphis police responded to a carjacking in the 3800 block of South Advantage Way in Raleigh on Aug. 30, where the victim reported his 2015 Toyota Corolla had been taken at gunpoint.

He told police he was sitting in his vehicle when a man he didn't know walked up to the driver's side of the car, pointed a small black handgun and threatened to shoot him if he didn't get out.

After that man and another suspect got in his car, the victim said he noticed a silver SUV following them out of the apartment complex, the report said.

A patrol officer in the area spotted the Corolla with four men inside and officers tried to stop the car as it ran through a red light at Coleman Road and Austin Peay Highway.

The suspects got on Interstate 40 and led officers on a high-speed chase into West Memphis, Arkansas. The chase continued and was picked up by the West Memphis Police Department, the Marion Police Department, the Monroe County Sheriff 's Department, the St. Francis County Sheriff's Office and finally the Hazen Police Department.

There, the suspects jumped from the car and tried to run away, but were chased down by Hazen officers.

Charged with carjacking are: Deshun Adair, 21, West Memphis; Diarrus Carter, 19, West Memphis; Vondre McClure, 21, Memphis; and Devaria Williams, 28, Memphis.

No bond has been set.
