Memphis recruit Boogie Ellis commits to Duke
Memphis recruit Rejean "Boogie" Ellis is going to be a Duke Blue Devil.
Ellis, the No. 35 overall player in 247Sports' Composite rankings, committed to Duke Friday night over Memphis, North Carolina, Southern Cal and San Diego State
The four-star guard took an unofficial visit to Memphis for Memphis Madness on Oct. 4.
Ellis said in August that Memphis coach Penny Hardaway took notice of his abilities at the Peach Jam AAU event this summer, and told the 6-foot-2 combo guard he would fit well in the Tigers' crowded backcourt because of his scoring ability.
When Ellis arrived at the table to make his announcement, he only had Duke, North Carolina and San Diego State hats on display. The California native jumped from No. 72 to No. 25 in 247Sports' class of 2019 rankings in August, and picked up offers from Duke and North Carolina one month later.
Jahmius Ramsey, another guard Memphis was recruiting, committed to Texas Tech earlier this week.
Olive Branch's D.J. Jeffries and East's Malcolm Dandridge remain as the two members in Hardaway's 2019 recruiting class.
Memphis is also pursuing 247Sports' top 50 players James Wiseman, Trendon Watford, Matthew Hurt, and Precious Achiuwa.
