Local, state leaders remember President Bush for life of service

Shelby County and Tennessee leaders expressed grief Saturday over the Friday night loss of former President George H.W. Bush.

Many offered prayers and condolence­s, recognizin­g his life of service and love for his country.

“Roberta (and) I are saddened to hear of the passing of our 41st President, George H. W. Bush,” U.S. Rep. David Kustoff said on Twitter. “A WWII veteran, President Bush lived a long life of service to our nation, and his legacy will not be forgotten. Our prayers go out to his friends, colleagues, (and) the entire Bush family.”

Bush died Friday night at the age of 94.

Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland posted a quote from Bush’s 1991 State of the Union address.
