‘The Voice’: Twitter vote saves Reagan Strange

- Abigail Warren Memphis Commercial Appeal USA TODAY NETWORK - TENNESSEE

Reagan Strange broke out in tears as she sat in the audience Tuesday and watched Top 10 results show of “The Voice.”

The tears flowed after the 14-year-old from the Memphis area found out she would be advancing to the semifinals thanks to the Twitter instant save — even though she had been unable to perform.

Reagan, an apparent front-runner so far this season, was revealed to be among the bottom three voter-getters. But Reagan was not feeling well — she never appeared on stage during Tuesday’s show — and could not perform with the other artists who received the lowest number of votes.

Only one of the bottom three artists would be saved to advance to the Top 8 next week.

Her coach, Adam Levine, had two artists up for elimination and may have been the deciding factor in Reagan’s vote.

“I cannot sing for Reagan,” Levine said. “Reagan has to sing for Reagan ... I have a very special relationship with Reagan, and I have two little girls at home and the thought of breaking her heart by not urging everyone to give this girl a shot — to go redeem herself next week — would be too far beneath me.”

After Levine’s team member DeAndre Nico performed, the coach expressed support for Reagan. He said he appreciated Nico’s efforts

“DeAndre, you’re an exquisite singer,” Levine said as Nico stood on stage. “But I want to say this. There is an unbelievably talented little girl right now, who is not able to fight for her position on this show, and you (DeAndre) were fortunate tonight to be able to sing — and man, like a champ. This guy sang like a champ.”

As Dave Fenley, the other artist in the bottom three, and Nico performed, Reagan sat in a robe next to her mother and watched with tears in her eyes.

Reagan had been the most streamed artist on Apple Music two weeks in a row. On Tuesday, Chris Kroeze of Blake Shelton’s team got the top streamed spot.

Amanda Kucinski, Reagan’s mother, said on Facebook that people had reached out after Reagan’s performance Monday of Faith Hill’s “Cry.” Many said Reagan seemed “off ” and expressed concern in response to Reagan’s Facebook post following Monday’s performance.

“I love that you (fans) celebrate the great moments and you lift me up even more through imperfection,” Reagan said in her post Monday. “Who wants to live in a world where perfection is the expectation?”

The semifinals will air 7-9 p.m. Monday on NBC. There are eight semifinalists who will be narrowed to four by viewer votes on Dec. 11. The finals air Dec. 17, and the winner of Season 15 will be named Dec. 18.
