Slew of bomb threats nationwide included Memphis
A slew of bomb threats sent out via email nationwide on Thursday included multiple in Memphis, according to the police department.
“Each location has been checked and no devices have been located,” Memphis police posted on Twitter.
Officers responded to at least four threats, including at a car dealership and a credit union.
The department listed four addresses that received threats:
❚ Trust Federal Credit Union, 3617 Winchester Road ❚ 4048 Senator Street ❚ Principle Toyota, 7370 Winchester Road
❚ Peifer Safe & Lock, 3747 Cherry Road
Nationally, a string of emailed bomb threats Thursday targeted universities, police departments and news organizations.
The New York City Police Department said the threats sent Thursday were meant to cause disruption and compel recipients to send money and that the threats are not considered credible.
There were no reports that any actual explosive devices had been discovered, but the threats alone had forced many police departments to monitor and investigate.
