Trump, Obama and the truth

-

Crimson Tide ebbs and falls

That shake, rattle and roll felt and heard in the state of Alabama wasn’t from Clemson fans in their 44-16 blowout victory, it was Bear Bryant rolling over in his grave.

I found interesting Gordan Bryan’s statement in his recent letter to the editor about paying for the border wall. He stated that each Trump voter could donate about $400 to pay for Trump’s campaign promise that Mexico would pay for the border wall.

I seem to remember in 2013 Politifact named President Obama as making the lie of the year for saying the following over and over and over: “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor” and “if you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan.” Does anyone think Obama would have been reelected if he had told the truth to the American voters? Can you imagine him going to the American public and stating, “I’m going to force my health care plan on you and you will lose your current plan and current doctor?”

So, Mr. Bryan, I will pay my $400, if Obama voters will cover the cost of taking away people’s doctors and health care plans. Can you put a price on those lies, Mr. Bryan? What Obama gave our country was universal health insurance, not universal health care. The fact is, many can’t even use their current health insurance because the co-pays and deductibles are too high.

Kudos for Harris coverage

There have been numerous changes at our Commercial Appeal, some good, some seem not so good. However, one thing our CA is up front and straight on about is reporting on our youth and government. The Jan. 8 article on Mayor Lee Harris’ and his interest in the benefits of building of a new juvenile justice confinement facility is an excellent idea as to the comfort and safety of our youth. We don’t often read of ideas and interest of our government in developing programs and activities to help youth stay out of trouble in the first place. Just a thought.

A good opportunity, spoiled

The news that Germantown Country Club is closing is a shame, especially when one of the reasons is that golf is losing popularity among young people. These young people don’t realize the opportunities they are missing that the game of golf provides, such as lifelong relationships both with friends and business acquaintances.
