Arctic blast due to hit Kansas City for AFC title game

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Break out the parkas for Sunday night’s AFC title game at Arrowhead Stadium.

The National Weather Service is projecting an arctic blast to settle over Kansas City for the Chiefs’ game against the New England Patriots. Temperatur­es at kickoff could range from 10 degrees to well below zero, potentiall­y making it the coldest game in Arrowhead Stadium history.

Twice it has been 1 degree at kickoff, including a December 2016 game against Tennessee.

Both teams are accustomed to cold, inclement weather, though.

Alabama linebacker Wilson joins NFL draft exodus

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama middle linebacker Mack Wilson is entering the NFL draft.

Wilson becomes the seventh Crimson Tide player and fourth defender to declare for the draft since losing to Clemson in the national title game.

The junior announced his intentions on Twitter Sunday evening.

Wilson made 71 tackles with five for a loss and had two intercepti­ons last season.

LSU linebacker White says he is entering for NFL draft

BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU Allamerica and Butkus Award-winning linebacker Devin White says he has decided to enter the 2019 NFL draft and forgo his remaining season of eligibilit­y to play for the Tigers.

White, who made the announceme­nt in a video released Monday on social media, is the third player from the 2018 Tigers to leave school early to turn pro, joining defensive back Greedy Williams and interior defensive lineman Ed Alexander.

Former ace, longtime pitching coach Stottlemyr­e dies at 77

NEW YORK – Mel Stottlemyr­e, the former ace who later won five World Series rings as the longtime pitching coach for both the New York Yankees and Mets, has died. He was 77.

The Yankees said Stottlemyr­e died Sunday. He had been living in the Seattle area and had multiple myeloma for nearly 20 years.
