Former Tigers star Dozier arrested on assault charge
Former University of Memphis men’s basketball star Robert Dozier was arrested in connection with a domestic disturbance call just before 5 a.m. Tuesday, the Memphis Police Department confirmed.
Dozier, now 33, was part of the men’s basketball team during the 2007-2008 season and played a critical role in helping the team reach the NCAA championship game.
According to police documents, an officer was called to a house in Orange Mound after Dozier reportedly became upset and started attacking a woman.
After getting upset, Dozier attacked the victim and began to “pull her hair and push her down on the bed”, according to police reports. The victim told police she asked Dozier to stop, but he continued to choke her and struck her with an open hand.
After Dozier left the house, the victim drove herself to a nearby hospital where she told police she had a dislocated shoulder and finger that resulted from Dozier’s assault.
The victim signed a hold harmless form, a form that essentially states one party will not hold another party responsible for risk or physical damage.
