Troopers: 3 dead, 1 critically injured in Alaska plane crash
MOOSE PASS, Alaska – Three people died and a fourth was severely injured in a plane crash in Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula, authorities said. The small plane crashed Friday into a mountain on the north side of Tern Lake near Moose Pass, Alaska State Troopers spokesman Tim Despain told the Anchorage Daily News. The paper said the survivor, Joy Cooper, 28, of Paris, Texas, was on vacation when the plane crashed. Cooper suffered broken bones and a collapsed lung. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
WASHINGTON – White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said President Donald Trump won’t back off national security concerns after agreeing to allow U.S. companies to sell some components to Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei. Kudlow told “Fox News Sunday” and CBS’ “Face the Nation” that Huawei will remain on an American blacklist as a potential security threat. But any additional U.S. licensing “will be for what we call general merchandise,” such as chips and software generally available around the world.
CARACAS, Venezuela – A top U.S. official says the death in custody of a Venezuelan navy captain shows that nobody’s safe under President Nicolás Maduro. Sunday’s tweet from U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Kimberly Breier came a day after Capt. Rafael Acosta died following an appearance in a Caracas court, bearing what his attorney said were the signs of torture. Alonso Medina Roa said Acosta was bruised and bloody when he was brought to the hearing in a wheelchair. He was accused of plotting to assassinate Maduro.
JERUSALEM – A Palestinian security official on Sunday confirmed the release of a Palestinian man who was arrested after participating in the White Houseled Mideast peace conference in Bahrain last week. The Palestinian Authority arrested Saleh Abu Mayala on Saturday in the city of Hebron for interrogation. The security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Abu Mayala had been released late Saturday. The Palestinian Authority boycotted the Bahrain conference, saying the U.S. is unfairly biased toward Israel.
