Shelby County Schools CFO resigns, interim CFO announced

MEMPHIS — The recently appointed Chief Financial Officer of Shelby County Schools is resigning from her post, according to a release from the district.

Angela Carr will be replaced in the interim by Tutonial (Toni) Williams, a recent Chief Financial Officer of Millington Municipal Schools.

Carr's final day in the position is Friday, Superinten­dent Joris M. Ray announced Monday. She held the position for 11 weeks. Carr is resigning to focus on family and personal matters, according to the release.

“I am so thankful for Ms. Carr's 12 years of combined service to Memphis City Schools and Shelby County Schools,” Ray said in the release. “We value family priorities and wish her well in all of her future pursuits.”

Ray announced Carr's appointmen­t July 10. According to that release, Carr had an 11-year career with the district (legacy Memphis City Schools), including roles as a senior accountant, director of accounting and reporting and, prior to her appointmen­t as CFO, deputy CFO.

Williams, most recently CFO of Millington Municipal Schools, will begin as interim CFO for Shelby County Schools on Sept. 30.

She worked with Shelby County Schools before as a budget and account director, according to the recent release. Williams is a graduate of legacy Memphis City Schools and Clark Atlanta University. She's held additional financial leadership positions with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and with additional companies in Atlanta and Augusta, Georgia.

‘We welcome her expertise and the strong support she brings to our finance team during this transition,” Ray said in the release.
