Whitehaven leads football Week 7 power rankings

Here's a look at the Week 7 power rankings.

1. Whitehaven (5-1): Whitehaven earned an impressive shutout win on the road against Cordova and in front of Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt. Pruitt offered scholarshi­ps to senior linebacker Tamarion Mcdonald and sophomore lineman Aliou Bah after the game. Last week: No. 1. This week: at White Station.

2. Briarcrest Christian (6-0): Briarcrest beat Madison-ridgeland Academy (Mississipp­i) 42-20. Next comes a game against a region foe that has won its past two games. Last week: No. 3. This week: at Christian Brothers.

3. Houston (5-0): Houston was idle last week.

The Mustangs have scored 45 points or more in three of their past four games. Last week: No. 2. This week: vs. Bartlett.

4. MUS (5-1): MUS shut out Fairley 45-0 as Hunter Kendall carried the ball 12 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Next comes the Owls' first road game of the season. Last week: No. 4. This week: at St. Benedict.

5. ECS (5-1): ECS became the first team to beat Colliervil­le by more than a touchdown with a 27-13 win. Last week: No. 5. This week: at Lausanne.

6. Covington (6-0): Covington beat Ripley 34-7. The Chargers have scored 34 or more points in every game. Last week: No. 6. This week: at Milan.

7. Kirby (4-1): Kirby bounced back from last week's shutout loss to Southwind with a 49-3 rout of St. George's. Last week: No. 7. This week: at Kingsbury.

8. Christian Brothers (4-2): The Purple Wave picked up a 23-14 road win over Central.

Next comes a game with the DII-AAA West region leader. Last week: Unranked. This week: vs. Briarcrest.

9. Wooddale (5-1): Wooddale enters the power rankings after posting a 3427 road win over Lausanne. Last week: Unranked. This week: at Melrose.

10. Freedom Prep (6-0): The Eagles beat Memphis Business Academy 63-0. The Eagles have shut out every opponent except Middle College. Last week: No. 8 This week: at Westwood.
