Wide receiver is a key need

-

Grandberry, a JUCO All-american last season.

The Tigers currently have four wide receiver commitments in their 2020 class. This comes on the heels of Memphis signing three wide receivers last year.

This reflects the success Anthony Miller and Damonte Coxie have had with 1,000-yard seasons from 2016-18. The Tigers also targeting taller receivers with Taylor (6-foot-2) and Kobe Webster (6-1) both being big targets after coach Mike Norvell signed Javon Ivory (6-1) and Cameron Baker (6-0) last year.

It's also not a surprise that two of the Memphis' four highest rated commitments in the 2020 class are three-star receivers in Taylor and Khi Mathieu. It's a position that needs depth after Kedarian Jones and Antonio Gibson graduate following this season.

Transfers will add boost in 2020

For those concerned the Tigers' class looks small, fear not. Memphis have additional players already enrolled that could make the biggest impact in 2020 when they become eligible.

Former four-star running back Asa Martin transferred in after his freshman year at Auburn and a brief stint at Miami. Brendan Devera, a former three-star linebacker at Rutgers, enrolled in classes in August as did three-star offensive lineman Michael Denson.

All three will be able to play with the Tigers in the spring and Martin, who was Mr. Football in Alabama in 2017, will immediately help overcome the graduation of both Patrick Taylor and Traveon Samuel.
