Here's a look at promotions, hirings and other noteworthy business events in the Memphis area:
The Memphis Botanic Garden Foundation Inc. announced its slate of new officers to lead the Memphis Botanic Garden for the fiscal year that began July 1. The officers are president – P.Z. Horton, technology executive and volunteer with Memphis-based Alpha Omega Veteran Services; vice president – Jay Royalty, vice president, Corporate Development and Disruptive Technologies, International Paper; secretary – Chris Miller, president of Memphis-based Yuletide Office Products; treasurer – Aarti Bowman, senior vice president, Investor Relations, First Horizon; assistant treasurer – Steve Beussink, assistant treasurer, Autozone; and immediate past president – Vance Lewis, past president of The Little Garden Club of Memphis. Additionally, the election of seven new members to its board of directors, that also began July 1: Scott Adams, senior vice president, FTN Financial Capital Markets; Gwen Campbell; retired from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center; Diane Chambliss, community volunteer; Jennifer Coltharp, director of lender services, Hanover Securities; Kristi Goldsmith; Goldsmith Family Foundation; David Scully, president of Duncan Williams Asset Management; and Sehrish Siddiqui, an attorney with Bass, Berry, Sims.
Rhodes employees — Alonzo Longstreet, Jennifer Logan, Tierney Jackson and Karen Mosley were recognized with 2019 Outstanding Staff Awards based on nominations submitted by faculty, staff and students. The presentations were made during the the spring Service Recognition Brunch. The Outstanding Administrative Services Staff Award was bestowed upon housekeeper Longstreet who is affiliated with the Bryan Campus Life Center, most importantly for maintaining all the sports floors in the facility and adjusting his schedule to accommodate varsity games. Logan was given the Outstanding Administrative Staff Award for her work with students, faculty, and staff. And Out
standing Administrator Awards were presented to database analyst Jackson and instrument technician and chemical safety officer Mosley.
Four new trustees of Moore Tech were elected recently as replacements for four long-time trustees with nearly 75 years of service who retired from the board. The new trustees are Farrar Schaefer Vaughan, Belinda Anderson, Pastor James E. Kirkwood and Willis T. Yates. Vaughn, a third-generation Memphis automobile executive, is president of Jaguar Land Rover Bluff City. Anderson retired after 23 years as an airline employee and served seven years on the Tennessee Aeronautics Commission. Pastor Kirkwood retired as a colonel after nearly 32 years with the Memphis Police Department and is currently the director of the Memphis Christian Pastors Network. Yates Yates retired as director of operations with Smith & Nephew Inc. after 27 years and is president and owner of Y&W Technologies, a finishing and plating company for the medical device industry. Moore Tech also announced that the board elected Ben Wingfield as its new chairman, replacing longtime chairman John Malmo, who, joins Grattan Brown, Pat Schaefer and Joe Saino as retiring trustees. Wingfield is vice president for product management of nexair LLC.
The University of Tennessee Health Science Centercollege of Nursing awarded four Nurse Hero awards to individuals who have shown achievement in caregiving roles. They were honored during the college’s Nightingala celebration May 4 at Memphis Botanic Garden. Receiving the The Nightingala Bedside Nurse Hero Award was Cathy Russell, a registered nurse with Saint Francis Hospital; Nightingala Advanced Practice Nurse Hero Award, Artangela Henry, adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner, Methodist Hospital Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center; Nightingala Nursing Team Heroes were the UTHSC Mobile Stroke Unit Nurse Practitioner Team — Anne Alexandrov, Wendy Dusenbury, Victoria Swatzell, Natalie Hall and Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Wise. The Nightingala Executive Nurse Leader Hero honoree was Robin Mutz, senior vice president and chief nurse executive, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Sandra Madubuonwu, director of Maternal-child at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, received the Dr. John Runyon Award, celebrating a champion in the community who has promoted the efforts of nurses.
