Houston offense vs. Whitehaven defense in TSSAA quarterfinals

Here are five take aways from Week 2 of the TSSAA high school football playoffs.

Whitehaven, Houston play Friday

It's time for Lincoln Pare and Houston's prolific offense to take on Bryson Eason and Whitehaven's dominating defense. The Mustangs have scored 44 or more eight times. The Tigers have posted seven shutouts. Last year, Whitehaven eliminated Houston with a 3127 road victory.

MUS is last local team standing in DII-AA

MUS held on for a 35-28 win over Knoxville Catholic after jumping out to a 28-7 first-half lead. The Owls advance to take on MBA, which beat MUS 14-7 on Sept. 20. Briarcrest lost 35-33 to Ensworth despite four touchdowns from Mr. Football semifinalist Jabari Small. It was the Saints' eighth semifinal loss in a row. Christian Brothers lost 28-6 to Mccallie.

Winner of Ecs-lausanne goes to Cookeville

ECS and Lausanne advanced to play each other in the DII-AA semifinals. The Lynx eliminated the Eagles in last year's second round. This year, ECS beat Lausanne 21-14 during the regular season. It was ECS' second-lowest scoring performanc­e of the year behind Friday night's win over former coach Jonas Rodriguez and BGA.

Wooddale, Covington set for Class 3A showdown

Wooddale and Covington each won their second-round games by less than a touchdown. Covington appeared in the last two Class 3A state title games, falling to Alcoa both times. Wooddale lost in last year's first round.

Fairley knocks out Union City

Fairley rolled to a 34-6 second-round win over Union City — the team that eliminated the Bulldogs in the second round this year. Next comes a matchup with undefeated Peabody, which has yet to allow a point in the postseason.
