Grind. Sip. Repeat. It’s a mantra that coffee aficionados know well.

It’s also the hashtag for the second annual Grind City Coffee Xpo that’s happening Saturday.

This event is focused on celebrating the exploding Memphis coffee culture. From roasters to shops, the expo is meant to show Memphians all the great coffee options available by bringing the very best of the region’s coffee community together under one roof.

During the day-long expo, attendees can sample various brewing and roasting methods, as well as attend demos and panel discussions on the art of brewing the perfect cup of joe.

“My favorite part of last year’s event were the live demos by the Memphis Coffee Community,” attendee Katee Forbis said. “Everyone was so knowledgeable and really made the demos interesting and informative.”

From pour overs to flash brew to coffee sodas to roasting techniques, this event will highlight all the buzz-worthy (no pun intended) new trends in the coffee industry.

Memphis participants include coffee roasters and shops such as Avenue Coffee, Comeback Coffee, Dr. Bean’s Coffee & Tea Emporium, French Truck Coffee, City & State, The Hub and Vice & Virtue.

“This year we decided to add coffee vendors from around the region,” said Lynn, citing participants from Nashville, Chattanooga and Jackson.

The Belltower Artisans will create a signature keepsake mug for the event.

Throughout the day, panel discussions will be hosted by some of Memphis’ top coffee roasters and baristas. Topics will include sustainability in coffee and the journey of a coffee bean from farm to cup.

A panel discussion on “Ask a barista” will allow attendees to ask some of Memphis’ most talented baristas about which equipment to use at home.

New this year will be “Coffee in Cocktails” demos. Several Memphis bartenders and baristas have been paired to create a signature coffee cocktail.

“I was excited the minute I walked in too, because who doesn’t love the smell of coffee in the morning — especially coffee for a cause?”
