Lane named new Collierville police chief
Dale Lane, a former candidate for Shelby County Sheriff, will now lead the Collierville Police Department. The Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen named Lane to the position Monday.
“I look forward to working with each one of you and building a relationship with the people of Collierville,” Lane said in a news release. “I am honored to be able to work alongside the men and women of the Collierville Police Department.”
Lane has more than 32 years of experience in public safety, most recently working as chief of safety and security for the Memphis Area Transit Authority.
Before that role, Lane was director of the Shelby County Office of Preparedness from October 2014 through November 2018.
He had previously worked with the Shelby County Sheriff ’s Office, which he joined in 1989. There, he started in patrol

and climbed the ladder, working in several divisions with SCSO, including the gang unit, SWAT and Chief Inspector of the uniform patrol division.
Lane ran for Shelby County Sheriff twice, once in 2010 and once in 2018. In 2018, after being unopposed in the Republican primary, he lost to former boss Floyd Bonner.
The Town of Collierville received about 26 applicants for the position of police chief. Some were local, while others came from across the country.
Lane will be replacing former Chief David Tillner, who retired in December. Tillner had been chief for just 18 months.
