Early taste of fair food
The Mid-south Fair Food Roundup is serving up cotton candy and more this week at the Landers Center.
You don’t have to wait until the fall to enjoy your favorite treats from the Mid-south Fair.
The Mid-south Fair will host a Fair Food Roundup from Wednesday through Sunday, showcasing eats from food truck partners at the Landers Center in Southaven.
The free event will allow visitors to preview Midsouth Fair food favorites a few months before gates open for the 164th annual event currently scheduled for Sept. 24-Oct. 4.
The Mid-south Fair Food Roundup will be held in the same space as the fair, on the east side of the Landers Center at 4560 Venture Drive, facing Interstate 55. Guests can visit from noon to 5:30 p.m. daily and enjoy fair favorites, including funnel cakes, cotton candy, slushies, crispy chicken tenders and deep-fried Twinkies.
“The Mid-south Fair has been a must-visit event for people of all ages for 164 years, and one of the consistent draws is the food, of course,” said Todd Mastry, the Landers Center’s executive director. “We’re thrilled to be able to share fair food favorites that evoke such wonderful nostalgia for so many Mid-south residents.”
In an effort to keep vendors and guests safe during the event, booths will be spaced out appropriately, and guests will be instructed to remain six feet from others while waiting in line and walking around the grounds. Sanitization stations will be plentiful, and face masks will be required for all staff and recommended for all guests. High-touch areas will be disinfected often.
The vendors taking part in this event will be provided by Midway Entertainment, the Mid-south Fair’s midway partner that provides the fair with its rides, ground acts, food and entertainment each year.
