Big comeback for ECS, DII-AAA West undefeated
MEMPHIS AREA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TAKEAWAYS WEEK 2
Hurricane Laura pushed most of this week's high school football games to Thursday. Here are five takeaways:
DII-AAA West remains undefeated
Briarcrest won 35-27 over Houston in this week's game of the week. Michael Dallas, who is committed to Kentucky to play baseball, threw four touchdown passes and ran a 15-yarder in for a score as well. Christian Brothers shut out FACS 37-0 in a game that was cut short due to lightning. Dallan Hayden rushed for 179 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 13 carries. Pope John Paul II also won its first two games. St. Benedict has yet to start its season.
ECS scores 23-unanswered in comeback win over Arlington
For awhile, it looked like defending DII-AA state champion ECS was headed for an upset loss in its home opener as it trailed 15-0 at the half. But the Eagles found some offense in the second half and scored 23 unanswered points to take home the 23-15 victory. Jaylen Greenwood rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns. Peter Nairn picked off Arlington's Zach Baker to close out the game.
Munford wins seventh straight M&M Bowl
Munford beat rival Millington in the M&M Bowl 29-3. The Cougars have won the rivalry game every year since 2014. It was the first win of the season for the Cougars, who lost to Covington in Week 1.
FACS, Fayette-ware, Brighton get shut out
There were three local shutouts. Christian Brothers beat FACS 37-0 and held the Crusaders to 13 yards of total offense; Northpoint beat Fayette-ware 40-0 in a game that got called at the half due to weather; and Dyersburg beat Brighton 35-0.
Lausanne, MUS set to start seasons
DII-AAA state semifinalist MUS is set to open its season next Friday against rival Christian Brothers. DII-AA state semifinalist Lausanne will play its opener against FACS. It's another example of how even some private schools are on different schedules from the other teams in their leagues this season.
