Ole Miss football vs. Texas A&M postponed

- Nick Suss

OXFORD — Ole Miss football's scheduled game this Saturday against Texas A&M has been postponed by the SEC.

The Rebels and Aggies were supposed to play Saturday at 2:30 p.m., but the game is now indefinitely postponed because of a high number of COVID-19 cases and contact tracing issues within the Texas A&M program.

Texas A&M already has a game scheduled on Dec. 12, Ole Miss' lone remaining open date before the end of the SEC season.

The league office said the opportunity to reschedule the game "will be evaluated" and there will be an opportunity to play the game on Dec. 19. That is the day of the SEC Championship game, a game which Texas A&M could qualify for if it wins out and Alabama loses two games.

Ole Miss has remaining games against Mississippi State (Nov. 28) and LSU (Dec. 5.

Texas A&M had its game that was supposed to be played last weekend postponed because of COVID-19 issues as well. The Aggies were supposed to play Tennessee on Saturday but could not because it did not have enough scholarship players available to play.

The Texas A&m-tennessee game has been "tentatively rescheduled" for Dec. 12 according to the SEC.

Ole Miss is 3-4 this season and has won two games in a row, including a 59-42 win over South Carolina on Saturday. The Aggies are 5-1 with their lone loss being to No. 1 Alabama and are ranked No. 6 in the Amway Coaches Poll.

Four out of seven scheduled SEC games were postponed last weekend because of COVID-19 outbreaks at schools. Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Missouri, Auburn and Mississippi State also lost games in addition to Texas A&M and Tennessee. Florida, Kentucky and Vanderbilt have also previously had games postponed or reshuffled around their schedules because of COVID-19 postponements.

Ole Miss was one of the few teams in the SEC who had not had any games postponed or rescheduled yet this season. The Rebels played without defensive starters Tariqious Tisdale and Jakorey Hawkins against Arkansas and Auburn while they were in the COVID-19 protocols. But beyond those examples, Ole Miss has stayed relatively healthy since the season started.
