Treats for your Thanksgiving Table: Five to try
I must confess. My favorite part of Thanksgiving is not the turkey or the dressing or the sweet potato casserole. It’s the dessert table. Every year, whether I host or not, I am in charge of the desserts and I always put out a spread that could probably feed a small army.
My grandmother’s pecan pie is the one dish I make year after year. I have never had a Thanksgiving without it.
The rest of the sweet treats however change annually.
This year, however, I am thinking about letting a few of my favorite bakeries do some of the work for me.
Here are five yummy treats I am considering. Each would be a perfect sweet treat to end your Thanksgiving feast.
Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Cheesecake: 17 Berkshire
I have to admit. I don’t like pumpkin pie, but I do love pumpkin cheesecake. 17 Berkshire (2094 Trimble Place) is offering a light and fluffy pumpkin cheesecake baked in a dark chocolate crust. If that’s not tempting enough, they are topping it with fresh whipped cream and salted caramel. The pie is $28. It’s also available as an individual tart for $6 each.

Decorated Cookies: Primas Bakery
+ Boutique
Downtown bakery Primas Bakery + Boutique (523 S. Main St.) is making these adorable “Buttercream Butterball” shortbread cookies. Each turkeyshaped cookie is topped with vanilla buttercream. They would look adorable on a buffet or individually wrapped as a take-home favor set out as part of the table place setting. Order 6 for $18 or a dozen for $36.

Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes: Frost Bake Shop
The pumpkin spice cupcakes at Frost Bake Shop (two locations: 394 S. Grove Park and 1016 W. Poplar Ave., Collierville) are one of my favorite pumpkin cakes in town. The flavor of a pumpkin pie is perfectly blended into a moist and tender cake; the flavors of subtle and perfectly balanced. Cream cheese frosting adds the perfect finishing touch. Wouldn't these look cute on a tiered cupcake stand? Cupcakes are $2.25 each or $27 per dozen.

Cranberry Apple Crisp: Muddy’s Bake Shop
The Cranberry Apple Crisp at Muddy's Bake Shop (2497 Broad Ave.) is based on owner Kat Gordon's mom's recipe that she makes every single year for the holidays. Fresh apple and cranberries are tossed in spices and topped with a toasty almond-oat crumble. The crumble comes frozen and ready to bake in your own kitchen. Kat suggests serving it with Sweet Magnolia Gelato Company's Mexican Vanilla Gelato – which you can also pick up at the bakeshop. Each crumble is $15.

Cookie Decorating Kits: Sweet Lala’s Bakery
Looking for a great kids' activity? Sweet Lala's Bakery (6150 Poplar Ave., Suite 118) is selling Thanksgiving Cookie Decorating Kits. Each kit comes with a dozen of their signature cookies cut out in fun Thanksgiving shapes. Containers of icing and sprinkles are included so everyone can decorate on their own. Each kit is $30.
