1947-2020 This is the day the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalms 118:24 Louie Arthur Gettings, Jr., “Lou”, also dearly known as “Butch”, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfathe­r went to meet his Lord on December 20th, 2020. He leaves behind a great legacy of love including his sweetheart and bride of more than 52 years, Pat Gettings and their children both born and brought into his family: Chris and Jill Conley, Marnie (spouse: Andy), Art (spouse: Thedra Gettings), Nikole Gettings (spouse: Bill Stegall), Lydia Hall and Danielle Gettings. They considered their children a heritage from the Lord. Lou loved each of his 17 grandchild­ren, one whom he is holding in heaven. He is also survived by his brother Gordon Gettings, sister Ginger Fleet, and brother-in-law Bumper Dunn. Lou spent more than 40 years of his life as a dedicated counselor and educator. He retired from the Shelby County School System here in Memphis, TN in 2017. Lou was a connector of people and was a guide, mentor, servant leader and friend to so many. The Lord is my strength and song and is become my salvation. Psalm 117:14.

A memorial will be live streamed from Independen­t Presbyteri­an Church at 10 am CST on December 23rd, 2020 (www.ipcmemphis.org, click on Live Stream starting at 9:45 am CST). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Salvation Army (Salvationa­rmymemphis.org) or Child Evangelism Fellowship (cefmemphis.com, 2091 Lee Place, Memphis, TN 38104).
