ST. AUGUSTINE, FL - Alfred Buckner Pittman IV of St. Augustine, FL, died peacefully on December 19, 2020, after a long fight with cardiovascular and kidney disease. His final few days were spent at the Hadlow Center for Caring in Jacksonville, surrounded by family.

Alfred was born in Memphis, TN, on January 22, 1935, to Alfred Buckner Pittman III and Dorothy Laws Pittman. He attended Pentecost-garrison School in Memphis through eighth grade, followed by The Choate School in Wallingford, CT, for high school. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1957 with a B.A. in Economics, where he was an active member of Kappa Alpha Order fraternity. An athlete at UVA, he ran cross country and boxed, remaining undefeated his senior year.

Upon graduation, Alfred enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves Medical Corps where he served for six years. He worked for Harry L. Laws & Co., a sugar cane interest, in Port Allen and New Orleans, LA, followed by work in sales for Hanes Hosiery and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which transferred him to Dallas, TX. He later worked in agriculture and in commercial real estate, eventually retiring in St. Augustine to be near family. Alfred was a member of Trinity Episcopal Parish and a tireless volunteer for the St. Johns County Republican Party, where he served on the executive committee and was a Century Club member.

Alfred was an avid golfer and loved the outdoors, a good fire, and a good drink, but his real passion was people. He never missed a chance to talk to anyone wherever or whenever the opportunity afforded, and he developed close relationships wherever life took him.

Alfred is survived by his son Alfred Buckner Pittman V of Jacksonville, FL, daughter-in-law Laura Jane, and grandchildren Heather, Lillian, and William; his daughter Holly Pittman Kidwell of Richmond, VA, son-in-law Andrew, and grandchildren Camille and Andrew; and his sister Florence Pittman Hays and nephews Andrew Hays and Bradford Hays of Memphis, TN.
