Meet CA’S All-metro girls soccer team

The first six players on The Commercial Appeal All-metro girls soccer team are nominees for player of the year. The winner will be announced June 24 at the fifth annual Memphis Area High School Sports Awards presented by Farm Bureau Health Plans.

First Team Maddie Bishop

St. George's, Sr.

Position: Forward

Why Chosen: The Ole Miss signee scored 18 goals, had seven assists and led St. George's to the DII-A state semifinals.

Sydney Davis

Colliervil­le, Sr.

Position: Midfielder

Why Chosen: Davis scored five goals and had seven assists.

Emma Riales

Houston, Sr.

Position: Forward

Why Chosen: Riales scored 17 goals and had five assists.

Sydney Somogyi

Houston, Sr.

Position: Defender

Why Chosen: The East Tennessee State signee led a Houston defense that posted 10 shutouts and made the Class AAA semifinals. She also scored six goals.

Sarah Strong

Briarcrest, Sr.

Position: Midfielder

Why Chosen: The DII-AA West allregion selection scored four goals, had 10 assists, and led Briarcrest to the DIIAA semifinals.

Maggie Ward

Colliervil­le, Sr.

Position: Goalkeeper

Why Chosen: Ward posted nine shutouts, helped Colliervil­le reach the Class AAA quarterfinals and allowed three goals all season.
