The Grizzlies added depth at point guard Monday by signing free agent Tim Frazier using the NBA'S hardship exception according to a report from The Athletic.

Frazier, a six-year veteran, last played in 29 games last season with the Detroit Pistons. He also appeared in 12 games, with two starts, for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2018-19 when Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins was an assistant under Mike Budenholz

Frazier averaged 6.3 points and 3.5 assists in 17.6 minutes with the Bucks. He also had a 2.69 assist to turnover ratio and shot 41.7% on 3-pointers.

The hardship exception allows teams to sign an additional player beyond its 15-player roster.

Teams can apply if they have four players who have missed at least three consecutive games due to illness or injury and will still be out for at least two weeks.

Ja Morant has missed the Grizzlies' last three games with a sprained ankle while Jaren Jackson Jr. (meniscus), Justise Winslow (hip displacement) and Jontay Porter (knee soreness) have yet to play this season.

Frazier adds another point guard to the roster as the Grizzlies have used both Tyus Jones and Kyle Anderson to fill in for Morant.

Over the last two games, Desmond Bane has also played some point guard.

Per the league's collective bargaining agreement, the hardship ends when one of the sick of injured players is able to resume playing.

The Grizzlies return to action Tuesday against the Los Angeles Lakers (7 p.m., Fox Sports Southeast)
