Cordova: 260-unit, $25M complex in development

- Corinne S Kennedy

An Indiana developer is now planning a 260-unit, $25 million apartment complex in Cordova as part of a larger planned development that has been in the works for 15 years.

Sterling Development LLC submitted an application to the Memphis and Shelby County Land Use Control Board to modify plans for a previous development to include the apartments.

Earlier plans for the Rockgate Center development, which first received approval in 2006, included single-family homes, multi-family residential, retail space and the possibility of either a church or a school.

The requested changes would apply only to a small portion of the overall planned development.

The development is planned for the southeast corner of U.S. 64 and Reid Hooker Road. The 7-acre area proposed for the Argento at Grays Creek Apartments along U.S. 64 was previously earmarked for commercial uses.

The land is currently vacant and largely wooded.

The 260-unit complex will have approximately 450 bedrooms, according to the application.

Concept plans for the complex show a pool, laundry area and other common facilities.

Sterling Development has developed projects in Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama and Georgia.

The Land Use Control Board will consider the application at a meeting on Feb. 11.
