Gus’s Fried Chicken is coming to Germantown.

The new restaurant will be at 3100 Forest Hill Irene and is expected to open in late summer or early fall.

Gus’s owner Wendy Mccrory said she has been working on opening a Germantown location for quite some time. Once it opens, the Germantown location will replace the Collierville restaurant.

“I love that corridor of Poplar,” she said, adding the location is also close for Collierville customers.

Mccrory said she is sad to be leaving Collierville. “I love that building in Collierville. I own it, but I wonder about its sustainability.”

The building at 215 S. Center St. is in need of about $300,000 in upgrades. After considering her options, Mccrory made the decision to look for a new space rather than renovate.

The Collierville Gus’s will remain open until it’s time for the new restaurant to open. The staff from Collierville will move to Germantown.

The Germantown location is larger than the existing Collierville restaurant. Mccrory said she expects the Germantown location to have seating for about 90

guests. The Collierville restaurant seats approximately 50.

Mccrory added that the Germantown

restaurant will be better set up for to-go orders. “There is a big parking lot, and we will have designated parking spaces for takeout orders,” she said.

Gus’s currently has five restaurants in Memphis. Three are company owned and two are franchises.

Nationwide, there are 31 Gus’s restaurants. Six additional restaurants, including several slated to open in Arizona in the coming months, are under construction.

Mccrory said her staff is the reason for her expansion. “I have a great staff. They are my motivation to keep growing Gus’s. My goal is not the number of restaurants, but the number of meaningful jobs I can create.”
