Vols loses two commitments after firing of HC Pruitt

- Mike Wilson Knoxville News Sentinel USA TODAY NETWORK – TENNESSEE

Tennessee football lost a commitment from four-star wide receiver Jordan Mosley and three-star offensive lineman Colby Smith Monday.

Both Mosley and Smith announced their decisions on Twitter in the wake of Jeremy Pruitt's firing after three seasons as the Vols coach after an internal investigation.

"This wasn't easy but it's a business decision that I feel is best for me," Mosley wrote.

Mosley and Smith were two of the three prospects committed to Tennessee that did not sign during the early signing period.

"There is just too much uncertainty," Smith wrote. "I committed on the notion that I'd be playing for coach Pruitt, so I need to take a step back to really reevaluate and pray about my situation and make sure I make the right choice."

The 6-foot, 190-pound Mosley committed to Tennessee in June 2019, one of the first 2021 prospects to commit to the Vols.

As the No. 303 recruit in the 247Sports Composite, he was the seventh-ranked recruit in UT'S class. The Mobile (Alabama) Mcgill Toolen was the highest-ranked recruit that did not sign with the Vols during the early signing period.

The 6-7, 315-pound Smith is the No. 620 prospect. The Reidsville (North Carolina) Rockingham Country prospect committed to UT on May 4 during a run of commitments that propelled the Vols to what was then a top-5 recruiting class.

Tennessee signed 19 players in the early signing period. UT'S class ranks No. 15 in the 247Sports Composite.
