Jane Holmgrain, age 97, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2021. Jane was born August 25, 1923 in Houston, TX to Charles S. and Imogene Killian Chase. She graduated from the University of Texas in 1945. She married Glenn Benton Holmgrain in October of the same year. Jane and Ben settled in Memphis and started a family, raising three children. They spent a brief period in Meridian, MS, from 1972 – 1977, where Jane was a high school art teacher. Jane had a passion for cooking and she loved to entertain. She was a savvy Bridge player, enjoyed tennis, sewing for her family and later in life smocking beautiful dresses for her two granddaugh­ters. She also created floral arrangemen­ts for her church. She was smart, creative and sociable. She spent much of her life volunteeri­ng and raising funds for the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Lebonheur Hospital and the Woman’s Exchange. She spent her final years at Kirby Pines Retirement Facility and was known there as “Mrs. Marvelous” as she was always upbeat and positive.

She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn Benton Holmgrain; son, Glenn Benton Jr.; granddaugh­ter, Heather Holmgrain Shaw; and son-in-law, Joey Baatz. She is survived by son, Eric Chase (Pam) Holmgrain; daughter, Elizabeth Baatz; daughter-in-law, Sharon Twyford Holmgrain; granddaugh­ter, Jennifer Glass (Jordan); and great-grandchild­ren, August and Henry Glass.
