Ole Miss defeats Missouri

- Nick Suss

The Ole Miss basketball team is squarely back on the bubble.

Ole Miss (13-7, 8-7 SEC) defeated No. 24 Missouri 60-53 on Tuesday night to stay in the NCAA Tournament discussion. The win marked Ole Miss’ second against Missouri this season and third Quadrant 1 victory.

Ole Miss led by as many as 13 points early in the second half, but Missouri came back to take a lead midway through the period thanks to an 11-0 run. In the first 10 minutes of the second half, Ole Miss turned the ball over seven times and made just two field goals.

Missouri briefly took a lead with 9:25 left in the second half but the Rebels battled back to keep the score even or hold a slight lead for most of the rest of the game.

Ole Miss only allowed one Missouri field goal in the final three minutes to hold onto the victory.

This performance followed Ole Miss’ 66-56 loss against Mississippi State on Saturday. The Rebels defeated Missouri 80-59 on Feb. 10 in their previous meeting. According to USA TODAY Sports’ most recent bracketology update, Ole Miss is one of the “next four out” for the NCAA Tournament field. Missouri projects as a No. 5 seed in that field.
