Bryant’s new owners buy La Baguette

Restaurant owners and managers Judd and David Tashie have gone from grits to quiche in the same week.

Two days after the cousins announced they are the new owners of Bryant’s Breakfast, a beloved downhome eatery on Summer Avenue, the Tashies announced they also have bought the similarly well-established La Baguette French Bread and Pastry Shop at 3088 Poplar in Chickasaw Oaks Plaza.

At Bryant’s, the menu features country ham and biscuits-and-gravy. At La Baguette, the specialties include veggie focaccia and almond croissants. In both cases, the new owners plan to retain the signature food themes that made the restaurants successful in the first place.

The purchase was perhaps foreordained: A family-owned bakery and restaurant, La Baguette originally opened in 1976 in the same Erin Way strip mall space that now houses another restaurant owned by the Tashies, Ciao Bella Italian Grill.

According to the restaurant website, La Baguette offers “authentic French breads, pastries, and desserts made with the finest and freshest of ingredients. Our breakfast and lunch recipes are unique to La Baguette, and all are family-tested and approved.” The current manager is Gene Amagliani, who plans to retire.

The sale was completed Friday. David Tashie said La Baguette will retain “all the items that people have always loved,” but the menu may be expanded. In addition, “We’re probably going to do a little bit of remodeling,” he said.
