Meet the CA’S 2021 All-metro girls basketball team

The six members of the first team are nominees for girls basketball player of the year. The winner will be announced June 30th at the Commercial Appeal Sports Awards.

First Team Carmyn Harrison

Hutchison, Sr.

Position: Forward

Why chosen: The Georgia Tech signee was a DII-AA Miss Basketball finalist, averaging 11.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists. She led Hutchison to it's first girls basketball state title.

Rhema Pegues

Olive Branch, Jr.

Position: Guard

Why chosen: Pegues was named MVP of the MHSAA Class 6A state title game. She averaged 18.1 points and 7.4 rebounds. She shot 67 percent from the field and 44 percent from three.

Colliervil­le, Jr.

Position: Guard

Why chosen: The District 15-AAA MVP led Colliervil­le to an appearance in the sectionals. She averaged 15.4 points.

Leah Jones

Northpoint, Sr.

Position: Forward

Why chosen: Jones averaged 17 points and nine rebounds, leading Northpoint to the DII-A semifinals.

Arlington, Sr.

Position: Guard

Why chosen: Taylor averaged 19.6 points, leading Arlington to an appearance in the Class AAA state tournament.

Tipton-rosemark, Sr. Position: Forward

Why Chosen: Hall averaged 18 points, six rebounds, and three assists, leading Tiptonrose­mark to the DII-A quarterfinals where they lost to eventual state champ Webb School.

Forward: Maxine Engel, Hutchison, Sr.

Coach of the Year Thomas Jones

Hutchison

Why chosen: Jones led Hutchison to its first girls basketball state title in school history with a 41-34 win over Knoxville Catholic. In the process, Hutchison won its first state tournament games in school history and finished the season with a 22-2 record.
