Meet the CA’S All-metro boys basketball team

The six members of The Commercial Appeal’s All-metro boys basketball first team are nominees for the boys basketball player of the year. The winner will be announced June 28th at the Commercial Appeal Sports Awards.

Colliervil­le, Sr.

Position: Forward

Why chosen: Barnes led Colliervil­le to its first state tournament appearance since 1973. He averaged 18.8 points and 6.4 rebounds.

Tipton-rosemark, Jr.

Position: Guard

Why chosen: Byrd averaged 19.5 points during the regular season and led Tipton-rosemark to an appearance in the Division II-A state semifinals

where he scored 36 points.

Chandler Jackson

Christian Brothers, Jr.

Position: Guard

Why chosen: The DII-AA Mr. Basketball finalist led Christian Brothers to an undefeated regular season and an appearance in the state semifinals. He averaged 17.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists.

Kameron Jones

ECS, Sr.

Position: Guard

Why chosen: The Marquette signee won the Division II-A Mr. Basketball award, averaging 22.5 points and 11.2 rebounds. He finished as ECS' all-time leading scorer.

Johnathan Lawson

Houston, Sr.

Position: Forward

Why chosen: Lawson led Houston to its first boys basketball state title and was named MVP of the Class AAA state tournament. He averaged 16.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists during the regular season.

Mason Miller

Houston, Sr.

Position: Forward

Why chosen: Miller won the Class AAA Mr. Basketball award, averaging 18.7 points, 3.3 assists, and 6.4 rebounds for state champ Houston.

Coach of the Year Mike Miller

Houston

Why chosen: The 17-year NBA veteran and former Memphis assistant guided Houston to its first boys basketball state title since the school opened in 1989. The Mustangs finished 21-3 in his first season.
