Three-star QB Lowe getting baseball offers too
Fayette-ware was trailing by five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning against Liberty Tech on Monday when leadoffhitterkyle Lowe came up to the plate.
"He led off the bottom of the sixth with a 400-foot blast, and it just got the whole team motivated," coach Brian Young said. "We just rallied behind that home run, and we ended up scoring 10 runs that inning. Kyle hit a home run and a triple all in the same inning."
The 5-foot-11 170-pound junior shortstop, who already has four home runs this season, isn't just the leader of the baseball team at Fayette-ware (12-0).
He's also the No. 25 dual-threat quarterback in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite. He has football offers from Kansas, Southern Miss, Army and Navy among others.
"I've been playing baseball since I was 4 just like I started playing football when I was 4," Lowe said. "I've always loved it. It's always come natural to me, but recently, I've really been working hard and taking my game to the next level."
Young said that Lowe also has Division I baseball offers and that some pro scouts have requested Fayette-ware's schedule. He's a speedy shortstop who can hit for power, and he also pitches.
"He has baseball offers," Young said, "But I'm not really in a position to release them because I haven't spoken with Kyle yet on how he wants to handle that. But he has major Division I baseball offers."
Lowe said that he's not sure if he will play both sports in college or just focus on football. His older brother, Trey Lowe, played football and baseball at West Virginia before transferring to Southern Miss in 2020.
"I'm not sure right now because I do
have some schools interested in me in baseball, so we'll see how that plays out," Lowe said. "I plan to graduate early my senior year after I get done with football. If I have an opportunity I want to pursue in baseball I can, or I might play both, but I'm not sure yet. We still have some time to think about it and sleep on it."
Young said what sets Lowe apart in baseball is his work ethic. He routinely gets up at 5 a.m. to work out before school starts and he works out with the football team after school.
"Kyle is the biggest perfectionist I've ever met. From how he eats to how he sleeps to how he trains. His approach is impeccable," Young said. "He just comes from a very disciplined family. His mother is Zaneta Lowe from Channel 3. His father played college football and was a graduate assistant coach at Alabama . His grandfather (Woodrow Lowe) played 11 seasons in the NFL with the Chargers. He's just the product of an extremely disciplined and talented family."
When spring football starts next week, Lowe will be juggling both sports. His dad, Woodrow Lowe Jr., is Fayetteware's football coach.
Lowe said that he hasn't narrowed down his football recruiting list yet because he's eager to go visit schools once the NCAA dead period ends on June 1.
"Right now, everyone has an even playing field. I'm looking at everybody. It's been tough because of COVID," Lowe said. "I think towards mid-june, late July is when I'll narrow down the list, and we'll know more. Once we're able to get on the road and put names to faces that's when we'll narrow down the list."
