MEMPHIS - Alma Jen-o Newman, age 82, of Memphis rose into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 12, 2021. She was born March 8, 1939, in the Cub Creek Community of Hardeman County, Tennessee on the farm of her parents, Alma Octavia Pirtle Vincent and Thomas Aubrey Vincent.

Jen-o graduated from Middleton High School in 1957. After graduation, Jen-o moved to Memphis to begin work at E.H. Crump Insurance Co., and Associates Credit where she used algebraic equations to figure pay offs, as well as Colie Stoltz Music. For many years, during cotton harvest in the fall, she worked for the USDA Cotton Classing Office.

She met her husband, Dillard Thomas Newman, at church. Jen-o and Dil were married on September 3, 1960 at Union Baptist Church creating a partnershi­p of love and joy for 54 years. Jen-o loved her Lord, read her bible and was fervent in prayer.

Jen-o loved her entire family and enjoyed being with them celebratin­g birthdays, anniversar­ies, July 4th and Christmas. She sang in a quartet with her church as well as singing in the Glee Club in high school, where she was in production­s of “H.M.S. Pinafore” and “The Mikado” serving in the lead role. She loved her beagles, Dick, Diamond and Dale. Her many pleasures were seeing the first daffodils of spring, watching the birds, butterflie­s and squirrels going about their daily lives. Nature was her joy! Her favorite color was yellow. Hugs and “I love you” were given out in large quantities.

Jen-o leaves to cherish her memory, her siblings, Helen Tolbert, Wayne Vincent, Opal Young, Edith Pipkin, Emily Mills, Kathrine Perryman, Sue Shelly and a large extended family of sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and their children. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dillard, her parents and brother, Emmett.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. Friday, April 16 until service begins at 2 p.m. at Forest Hill East Funeral Home, 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis, Tennessee, with interment following.
